Services

Clients Served

I work with children (ages 8 and up), adolescents, young adults, and their parents and families.

Types of Therapy Sessions

The type of therapy session we will have depends on your child’s needs and the treatment plan we develop together. We begin with an initial intake session with parents only (or, if the client is age 18 or older, with the client themselves). After the intake, future therapy sessions may include one or a combination of the following:

  • individual sessions with the client

  • therapy sessions with the client and their parent(s)

  • sessions outside of the office in environments where anxiety or OCD symptoms are present

  • sessions with only the parents to address parents’ levels of stress or anxiety, how parents can more effectively respond to their child’s anxiety or OCD, and how parents can reduce anxiety accommodations (parental behaviors that actually increase or maintain a child’s anxiety rather than decrease it)

Teletherapy

I can provide teletherapy through a HIPAA-compliant online video platform. This service is available to Maryland residents and to any residents of states that have enacted legislation in accordance with PSYPACT, an interstate compact that allows psychologists who are licensed in one of the participating states to provide teletherapy to residents of any other participating state. See HERE for a list of participating states.

Deciding whether or not we will engage in teletherapy versus in-person therapy depends on a number of factors including:

  1. The needs of the child client (ex: Can they pay attention during a video session, or do they engage better in in-person therapy?)

  2. Whether you live within a reasonable driving distance of my office

  3. Scheduling conflicts that may make in-person therapy sessions less feasible

  4. Whether you have access to reliable internet and a private space in which to participate in teletherapy

In-Person Therapy

I am in the office on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays and provide in-person sessions as appropriate.

  • Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)

OCD is an anxiety disorder that requires a specific, evidence-based approach to treatment called Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP). Learn more about how I use this approach to treatment to help clients and their families understand the OCD cycle and reduce OCD symptoms.

  • Generalized Anxiety

Excessive anxiety and constant worry can take over a person's life and significantly affect the entire family. Learn more about how we can work together to help reduce anxiety and make it more manageable.

  • Other Types of Anxiety

There are other types of anxiety, such as phobias, school anxiety, and separation anxiety, that cause significant disruption in the lives of children, teens, and their families. Learn more about how I can work with you and your family to address these symptoms using evidence-based techniques.

  • Anxiety and OCD in a Family

Parenting a child or teen with anxiety or OCD is not easy, and it often requires a different set of skills than typical parenting. These disorders can negatively affect the functioning of everyone in the family. Learn more about how I work with parents and other family members to help them respond to their child’s anxiety or OCD effectively.
